Welcome to my Blog! In this post I’ll tell you a little about myself and give a rough idea of what I’m aiming to achieve with this blog. I’ll keep it short and to the point.
So, first things first: Hi! Thanks for being here! I’m Ciara, the owner and jeweler at Orin Designs.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always had an affinity for making things, particularly small things, and I love adding as much detail as I can. This led me to college, in Dublin - Ireland, where I completed a degree in Model-Making and Special Effects for Film and Theatre. After moving to the US, I stumbled across a jewelers’ studio that offered silversmithing classes and I fell in love. Since then, I’ve worked for small jewelers, big online retailers, and high-end custom stores. Each time I learned a little more and gained insight and experience. Not to mention making friends and meeting amazing people along the way.
Before I took the leap into becoming a small business owner, I was a repair jeweler for a wonderful custom jewelry store. It was an amazing place to work, with so many Master Jewelers to learn from. I truly enjoyed my time there. And then Life presented me with this opportunity and now here I am!
While working as a repair jeweler, I fielded innumerable questions from customers, several of which cropped up time and time again. My aim with this blog is to answer those questions to the best of my ability and to arm people with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their jewelry, regardless of whether it’s during the design and purchasing processes or to help with maintenance and repair issues. I’ll be starting with the questions that were repeated the most. The number 1 question on that list will be my next post: Ring Sizing or Resizing. I’ll be touching on how to find your size, what makes a ring difficult to size, and different sizing methods your local jeweler may use
